Don't Vote Labour

Anti-Free Speech Brigade Hits Wellington

A group of fed-up Wellingtonians were out today, chalking anti-Labour messages around the city center. Sonny Thomas, (vice president of Young Labour) and four other young Labour supporters followed the chalkers round, using little pastry-brushes and buckets of water in an attempt to stifle the protester’s message.

Isn’t it sad to see these misguided youth fighting to suppress the same set of freedoms that they themselves are exercising by doing so.

So free speech and expression is alive and well.

It’s equally an act of free speech to be able to remove what you don’t like or believe in.

I wouldn’t call that misguided, I’d call it active and exercising free speech too.

I would defend their right to destroy the chalk messages, but that’s only because they are chalk messages. For instance, it would be wrong to “remove what you don’t like or believe in” as you say, if it was a message on a billboard on someone’s front fence.
