Don't Vote Labour

Press Release

Press Release 11 February 2008
Don’t Vote Labour website back online

The Don’t Vote Labour website, www.dontvotelabour.org.nz has been relaunched as a blog.

On 6 January the Electoral Commission informed me that my website was in breach of the new Electoral Finance Act – the same law that the Human Rights Commission has labeled “a breach of human rights”. The new law specifies that if you make an election advertisement advocating for or against a political party, you must include your name and home address. And if you spend over $12,000 in your campaign, you must first register with the Electoral Commission for the right to have your say.

This new law is a blatant assault on democracy, and an insult to our soldiers who fought and died to defend our democratic country of New Zealand. The purpose of the law is only too obvious. It is to silence you and I, members of the public, from speaking out against the overbearing Labour/Greens government. And it places heavy restrictions on the opposition (National), while making it much easier for the current Government. In short, the Electoral Finance Act is Labour’s plan for a fourth term.

You and I are fed up with the Government – this new law is only one in a long list of anti-democratic and damaging legislations that are being pushed through Parliament, to further restrict our freedom. The Anti-Smacking law is an excellent example. 83% of the population opposed the bill at the time that the Government arrogantly passed it into law, turning thousands of loving parents into child-abusers overnight.

A massive thankyou to the thousands of good keen Kiwis who have stood behind me, and who I know will not back down in the very real fight to regain our freedoms.

  2. Cecilia Tankersley Says:

Congratulations Andy for setting up a blog. Well done for continuing to push your message.

  3. dave brown Says:

Minor grammatical correction “silence you and me” The “I” is silenced in that sentence.

Blog? Its cheaper than buying a controlling share in the NZ Herald to get the same results, but will you get the same readership? And can you line up a whole team of columnists and correspondents who will please the editor. But you are probably not as rich as Tony O’Reilly.

And why is it an assault on democracy to limit the amount that secret trusts can spend to influence public opinion? The hallmark of classic liberalism is the fully informed citizen. To be fully informed we need the same opportunity to express our freedom of information and freedom of speech. How is it possible to be fully informed if the mass media is owned by 3 or 4 international conglomerates that only publish the news they want to us to hear?

I’m not a defender of the Labour Government, but I think that it is less repressive of individual rights and freedoms than National has been and would be again. For example, the anti-smacking legislation is a restriction on the rights of parents, but that is outweighed by the rights of children. The point is that it is shameful indictment of our society that we need to legislation to protect children.

  4. andy Says:

point taken on the grammar - that one always gets me :)

to protect our children from what Dave?

  5. Kevin Says:

Minor grammatical correction Dave, but it is legislate not legislation in your last sentence. Tell me, is it democracy when you go against 80% of the population?

  6. jamie Says:

    Well done Andy
Great to see some one with the nouse and intestinal fortitude to stand up to these Politically correct gits who will do anything to hang onto the clutches of power.Yes they will even give a Tax Cut now there is an original idea!

  7. Hayley Says:

I think that’s the key - isn’t the whole purpose of democracy that MPs are our elected representatives? ie they represent us and our views? If they get into power and start making “I know better” type decisions, then arguably isn’t this no longer a democracy? Or do the principles of democracy only matter every three years when they are trying to get elected?

  8. Ted Says:

Hope the link works. It shows graphically the corruption in this Labour Govt. The Crown Law Office and the wanker, now promoted to the Judiciary, one Justice Arnold is now stopping the decision of Justice Mallon on the Berryman Bridge Disaster. His CV is mindboggling. Corrupt is a euphamism for this toad.

  9. Ted Says:

Herr H Clark is off to the United Nations I am advised. That will make it harder for proxy husband Peter Davis to get his bonk if they have ever had one which I doubt.

  10. Grant Says:

Excellent Andy. Well done. Ignore the “I know better than you” supercilious comments of Dave. Helengrad is nearly over.

  11. Dale Says:

Nice website Andy…or whatever your name is. Am I correct in guessing you’re a bored, lonely little 20-something year old?

[Andy: Ah, no actually. I think you’re looking for http://www.nzdating.com ]

  12. Randy Says:

This site is rubbish, time you learnt some web skills aye!

JUST REMEMBER DONT VOTE FOR A DON …KEY!

[Andy: With your website as the benchmark, I think - probably not]

  13. anotheranonymous Says:

I am a kiwi living overseas, returning soon, and have been watching with interest your old and new sites.

To Dave Brown, particularly regarding your last paragraph, no, actuallly we do not need legislation to be good parents, just be good parents. Legislation is a piece of paper not found in the home. Everyone knows it is wrong to kill or hurt children. Outlawing smacking/disciplining children has not changed this, and the headlines continue to show kids beaten to death, and yes, I am a parent. I totally agree with you children need to be protected, but this is a misguided way of doing it. Correct my grammar if you will.

To Dale, Andy may or may not be ” 20 something, lonely and bored”, but you are making a personal attack, based on assumptions, on a person who has raised some very valid points which has got you thinking, enough to respond. Disregard his age for a minute and listen to what he says. You make no comment other than to berate him?

PS. I am mid thirties something, not lonely, not bored.

    Randy, what can I say.

  14. web06 Says:

Randy, keep up the personal attacks, shows you weakness. LMAO.

  15. WebUser Says:

Nice to see that national moaned last election about interest free student loans put forward by Labour. But now they are simply going to kept it as is … hahahahahaha …. why did you change your mind ???

John Key, his repeated policy changes, called “flip-flops”. In the past he has argued against Working for Families, Interest Free Student Loans, Kiwisaver, cheap doctors visits he now claims these will be largely kept by an incoming National Government … come on sort yourself out. Looks like his lack of political experience is showing!

John Key has also seemed to changed his mind on the war on iraq. Labour did not back the war and thank goodness National was not in power at the time.

He also stated back in October 2007 the war “is over” as well - clearly showing the lack of knowledge for foreign affairs.

What about Nuclear? Looks like national’s would push the policy for change … “would be gone by lunchtime” .. is that in the best interests for all new zealanders?

    The list goes on ….

Something to think about before bagging the current government !!

  16. Phil Says:

Its good to see you back on line.

In the world of politics, debate and the press, the timeliness of a comment or rebuttal is crucial. This EFA regulates free speech, restricts it, distorts it and turns valid timely comment into fish and chip paper.

I don’t think the Labour government realise how obnoxious and overbearing they appear and are. They have crossed the line on several occaisions recently and have started to dictate to its citizens how they should think and act in their homes, their families and democratic rights.

To much power for too long, arrogant and dictatorial, they have to go.

To my dismay Labour has a point about big money though; if you want a preview of democratic meltdown caused by unfetterred Capitalism and Corporate greed have a look at what the Bush/Cheney administration has done in the US.

Welcome back Andy, perhaps you could start a debate on Key the Nats and Corporate takeover of the law and government. What methods you would use instead of the EFA so that ordinairy people are listened to and not drowned out by the big bucks.

    Phil

  17. Rust Bucket Says:

This situation illustrates the typical double-speak inherent in socialist politics (i.e. Labour Government), the tune starts with ‘we are for the people, we represent the people’, then in a slight of hands it becomes ‘the masses are blind, ignorant fools but fortunately we know what’s best for them’!
Sorry Helen, who runs the government again? Well… I’m sure you’ll find that out in the next elections!
